Life in Denmark

Make the most of living and working in Denmark

Dear all,

I have recently discovered this site which I find very helpful.
Long story short: I need all the advice I can get! :)

I have come to the point in my life in which I have to make a real important choice. What do I refer to?
I'm 25 years old and have the chance to leave my country and come to DK (my fiancee is there for 6 months now) but I do not know if I will make it.
Will I be able to find a job and adapt to a new environment?
Coming to DK involves leaving my present job without the certainty that in Denmark I will find something.
What would you do?

Thank you in advance for your words and patience!
Have a great evening!

Making the decision is often the most difficult part and international move is always a challenge, but it's also an opportunity!

Following your heart may be the way to go if you are ready to accept that transition might take some time and hard work. Also, you can always return if things don't work out...Good luck with everything!

Dear Kirsi,

Thank you a lot for your words.
I think I have made up my mind.
I'm leaving!

Have a great day!
Hi Lulia!

Best of luck with your move.

As everywhere in the world at this moment in time it is difficult to find a job even if you are highly skilled.

I suggest you make sure that you will be able to stay and survive financially while waiting for the administrative process to be finalised. On the Immigration website the timescales given is hugely optimistic. I've been here for seven months now and I know they have not even touched my application which limits you as to everything that you can do.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have and I'll share my experience but I do not want to hijack your thread!

Regards,

Ricco
Dear Ricco,

Thank you for your reply!
I'm glad to have found this site.

People are really kind and offer help which, nowadays, is quite rare.

Thank you again!
Iulia

I first started my work life in Denmark in a Seaman's Home as one of their "assistants"- working in the reception, serving coffee, cleaning rooms, learning to make danish food and serving it to guests..you could try that too..apply where you are now and get them to first accept you and know that you will have a job to go to. Also they normally provide in-house accomodation. You will get to know lots of other young people..girls who work there, and also it is a nice environment to start off in.

And the best thing is they want people who can speak English..as almost all their guests are from overseas. They are very much like 3 or 4 star hotels, but the difference being that a lot of ther guests are seamen.

So look up "seaman's home denmark" in google and you wil get lots of listings..try writing to several of them and applying for work, It is the advice I can give you.

Kind regards and good luck..and what is for you will not go by you ..is what I believe!

Maria ;)
Dear Maria,

This is a precious piece of advice and make sure I will take it!
I just hope everything turns out alright for all of us who wish to make a fresh new start!

What about you now? Was it hard to find this job? And are you satisfied at the moment?

Thank you and best of luck to you too!
Thanks Lulia for asking. Yes indeed, it is very good to hope i think! Hope is a power!

Regarding how i feel about Denmark jobwise..well to tell you the truth I think it is very difficult for foreingers in this country.

It is the reason I have started my own venture..an outsourcing firm..and I think one thing that i do carry with me from my own country is a deep sense of conviction that the human spirit has agency and enterprise..that no structures can control.

What I mean by that is, that depending upon where we find ourselves, different prospects are offered to us.. the CONTEXT of where we are, can lend itself to helping us forward or not. And add to that our own capabilites of course, we have then a way to make a path.

I feel that here in Denmark it is rather difficult for even the most well educated foreigners to make headway. It is my personal opinion.

But adversity has lent itself to make me realise that I must also try with the ideas I love the most..my own beliefs in entrepreneurialism.

I have not come to the end of that road..just started...

ANd I wsh you the very best of luck..luck is perhaps not the word..belief and inner convictions and knowledge of WHO you are are the most important things we can bring with us..

Kind regards

Maria
Dears,

I have finally decided: Sunday I'm leaving to Denmark!
I'm so excited, and scared at the same time.
Please keep your fingers crossed! I will need all the help and luck I can get!

Thank you all for your pieces of advice!

Best regards,

Iulia
