TEEN CURIOSITY, CULTWRITERS AND “CARTOONS”
All kinds of different teen attitudes influence on our SMELL LIKE TEEN SPIRIT series: sexual experimenting and first real experiences, uncompromised idealists, squatterpunks and the curious yet hyperfragile attitude towards the surroundings. Our TEEN series is about courage, breaking with every convention and therefore also about the creative potential that lays in the TEEN attitude.
The Gonzo method made the American journalist Hunter S. Thompson loved by the people and feared by men of power - and it revolutionized journalism and inspired writers throughout the world. With a following debate about his influences on Danish journalism, we show the new portrait documentary “Gonzo: the life and work of Hunter S. Thompson”. We have world premiere on a film about the Danish cult poet Dan Turèll, show a portrait of Anna Politkovskaya as well as a film about the Czech poet and president Vaclev Havel.
It is quite a sensation that we present something as rare as an animated documentary. “Waltz with Bashir” is instructor Ari Folmanns animated film about coping with the traumas of war.
This year we also focus on philippine cinema right now and give you the possibility to engage in the work of the amazing Banning Family as we recieve a visit from James Benning himself.
MUSIC AND POLITICS IN FOCUS
The series SOUND AND VISON present a broad variety of intense, interesting and intimate views into the world of music: from portraits of famous icons as “Patti Smith – Dream of Life” with an extraordinary liveact by Smith herself the 15.th, over more narrow but high quality musician as the free-jazz legend Sunny Murray to world class virtuosos as Arthur Russel and Vashti Bunyan. In the more party oriented department we launch films about names as Justice (play live as well), Bassweight and Gogol Bordello – all accompanied by special events.
Politics is in focus in a series as well. From films about resistance against normalization over portraits of big political personalities to descriptions of the consequences of the harsh inequality and extreme poverty in the world, we intend to evoke reactions and debate current subjects.
Art and documentary clash as we launch a series of high quality events in corporation with the exhibition Reality Check at Statens Museum for Kunst (The National Gallery of Art). The ambience of the exhibition rooms breaks the traditional limit for film experiences and the intention is to connect the films to the surrounding world in new manners.
